Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Risk Strategy: Define, implement, and continuously evolve the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) strategy and Risk Appetite Statement (RAS) in alignment with board-approved growth targets.C-Suite & Board Governance: Present objective, quantitative risk assessments directly to the Board Risk Committee and the CEO, advising on capital allocation, stress testing, and macroeconomic vulnerabilities.Multi-Domain Authority: Oversee the proactive identification, measurement, and mitigation of risk across all major vectors: Credit, Market, Liquidity, Operational, Cyber/IT, and Strategic Risk.Regulatory Oversight (CBB): Serve as the institution’s primary accounting officer to the Central Bank of Bahrain, ensuring full compliance with Basel guidelines, local regulations, and international financial laws.Capital & Asset Liability Management: Partner with the CFO to oversee the Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO) frameworks, optimizing capital adequacy ratio ($CAR$) structures under standard formula assumptions.Crisis Management & Mitigation: Lead the design and simulation of business continuity, recovery plans, and stress-testing scenarios to protect the firm from systemic shocks.Culture Transformation: Drive a transparent, risk-intelligent culture across all business units, ensuring that risk management is embedded into daily operational decisions.
Requirements
Education & CertificationsDegree: Master’s degree or PhD in Finance, Economics, Quantitative Risk Management, or a highly analytical equivalent.Professional Credentials: Advanced designations such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager), PRM (Professional Risk Manager), CFA, or CPA are highly expected.Experience & Technical MasteryTenure: A minimum of 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience within a bank or licensed financial institution, with a significant portion spent at a senior management level.Regulatory Compliance: Proven track record of securing CBB Approved Person status (or equivalent international regulatory approval) and managing complex regulatory audits.Quantitative Prowess: Deep expertise in stress-testing models, Value at Risk ($VaR$), economic capital modeling, and risk-adjusted return on capital ($RAROC$).Executive SkillsetExceptional negotiation and conflict-resolution skills, with the courage to challenge business-unit assumptions independently.Elite verbal and written communication skills to articulate highly complex quantitative risk metrics into clear, actionable executive strategies.
